Japanese garden

What the system works out
You choose the garden area, style (zen / water / mixed), the number of stones and the fencing type. The system shows:
- the volume of gravel or sand for the chosen area and layer thickness;
- the price of stones and decorative elements (lanterns, small fountains);
- the bamboo or wooden fence perimeter and materials;
- the drainage layer (crushed stone) volume under the gravel.
Base and drainage
A Japanese garden needs a level, well-drained base. A geotextile fabric and 5–10 cm of crushed-stone drainage are laid under the decorative layer. The gravel layer is typically 5–8 cm. The system calculates both layers by area.
- In a zen garden the sand is raked into wave patterns — a 2–5 mm fraction works best.
- In a water garden a waterproofing liner and a pump are added to the pond element.
A Japanese garden is a landscape element, not a structure — no building permit is needed. If a water feature with a circulation system is planned, an electrician may be required for the connection.
- Rake the gravel regularly; remove leaves and weeds by hand.
- Prune the plants annually to keep a compact shape.
- If the site is wet, drain the base — geotextile and 10 cm of crushed stone under the gravel.
