Kamado grill table

ExperimentalUpdated: 2026-10-18

How it is built

The grill sits in a round countertop cut-out on a lower non-combustible shelf with a granite tile. A Big Green Egg stands on a metal Table Nest, a Kamado Joe on ceramic feet. The frame is steel or timber; the countertop is granite, concrete, ceramic tiles or stainless steel; casters are optional.

For Kamado Joe models the cut-out (Classic 57.9 cm, Big Joe 71.4 cm) and the shelf drop come from the manufacturer's guide. The shelf height and minimum table depth are calculated from them.

When the manufacturer data is missing

The Big Green Egg cut-out and shelf height come from the manufacturer's built-in drawings (2017): Large – Ø540 mm and 381 mm from the shelf to the top of the countertop, XL – Ø673 mm and 343 mm, with the grill on a Table Nest. If a model has no data, the system does not make up a number: it warns that the cut-out must be measured from your grill and estimates the full countertop without a cut-out.

Safety and regulations

- Solid-fuel grills may be used no closer than 6 m to buildings (General Fire Safety Rules, item 25).

- Manufacturers require non-combustible materials and an air gap under the grill. A timber table gets a separate warning.

- The table is not a structure (K = S × H³ < 10, STR 1.01.03:2017 item 30).
